Writing Group Papers!

Although sometimes it is harder to write papers with other people sometimes because people have different ideas than yourself, it has many benefits to it. These past two papers have been with small to larger group sizes which helped myself learn to really see other people's points of views and ideas. Sometimes its good to see the other side of the spectrum especially when you work with people that have different ideas on how to make a paper successful or just ideas in topics. This was really my first time ever doing a legitimate group paper and I think through this new experience it helped me learn how to bring other people pieces of writing with your own and still make it cohesive with your own writing.

With so many different ideas it makes things interesting because I realized that in order to have a successful research paper you need other people's point of views which makes a paper interesting. With these past papers I liked reading them more because of how each part was assigned to a different person and each had a different style of writing. I see now that although group papers may take a little more work to come together, it makes it easier as well in having a successful paper with people bringing different elements to the paper.

  1. I would agree with some of those statements. I also believe that having more people contributing their ideas in a group make a paper better overall. But inevitably one or more group members tend to slack off and not do their part effectively enough to make a paper work. Even if you have a slacker a paper can become very successful with the collective ideas.

  2. Working with groups can be a challenge. However everyone must deal with them. Whether its for a school project or in the workforce. Plus there's that feeling that everyone may not be contributing enough. Along with too many people not enough time to meet and get things done. However we work through it and make the best of it. I personally had a great experience with my group!!!!! We met deadlines and everyone did there fair share.

  3. I agree with everyone that working in groups can be challenging, although by working in groups you can distribute the work evenly. Also by working in groups every individual brings something different to the research, through their own past experience, prior knowledge etc. I think that by doing a research paper in a group your work will benefit as opposed to researching by yourself. By working together you can catch each other's mistakes, as well as help one another look outside of how they would approach the problem.

  4. I also agree (shocker, I know)! Anyhow, I was reluctant to do group papers at first. I felt this way because I am used to doing things on my own, and getting together with someone would be to much of a hassle. I was greatly mistaken. Working with a group these last two assignments really helped broaden my understanding of how to write a good research paper. And the group assignments proved that even when writing about one specific topic, a group can do just as good, if not better than a sole individual writing the paper.

  5. Working in a group can have its advantages. Especially like how Josh pointed out about the different points of view to be interesting. I do think that having a group paper can add to it because your group members can think of angles and different ideas that maybe you alone would never even think about. It’s a way to see different sides of the argument and being able to come together and write paper with all of these different arguments to one topic in mind.

  6. I do think that working in a group tends to augment everyone's knowledge and lighten the load, I just think it can be detrimental to a paper to have too many writers. I think having multiple researchers obviously enables more information to be gathered, but having too many writing styles, even if they all are very clear and fluid, makes the paper sound schizophrenic for lack of a better word. The other downside to assigning each person a section is that unless the entire paper is conceived of and planned out in a group meeting and those decisions are evaluated throughout the writing process, you tend to have a less cohesive paper. I think it is quite common for one person to write the introduction and state a certain thesis and arguments supporting that claim, and then as others write the other sections they wander from those points slightly. Overall, I think it is a good practice in team work, but I don't necessarily believe it enhances the papers.

  7. I think that working in a group does make it harder to get the paper done when you want to becuse you have to get together with everyone else and with all of their different schedules of classes an work make it more difficult.
I also think that writing a paper as a group is also a very interesting thing. You get to work with other people and their way of writing may be different from yours and even other people in your group so you get to see what it turns out like in the end.

  8. Although working in groups does allow multiple ideas and writing styles to be spread throughout a paper, it is not always the easiest way to write. When completing these past two group papers I found it easier to work with one other person, because when communication is only between 2 people less information and understanding is lost. Whereas with large group writing trying to communicate with everyone things can get forgotten or changed between people, another problem with large group writing is slackers, although it may only be one person it can still hinder the achievement of the group. Depending on the people in a group, group work may be a positive or negative experiment.

  9. After writing the group papers in Professor Ahmed's class, I believe that there are positives and negatives to writing a research paper in a group. Getting multiple people to do equal amounts of work is difficult as well is blending everyones different writing styles together to make the paper flow. I also think that bringing multiple peoples views together adds to the paper. Often times other people have different views that another may not have thought of, and I believe adding everyones views and opinions in a paper makes the paper so much more interesting.

  10. As I said in the comments on the other two group writing blogs. I agree with Josh too that working in groups does bring new light to the paper, and all in all makes for a better one
