Group Papers aren’t So Bad After All

In the beginning when Mr. Mohamed stated that we were going to do a group project, I thought to myself this will not work out. My first group project there was two of us working together, researching graffiti. The last group project there was a total of 6 people working together, researching fashion. Working in a group isn’t so bad its way less stressful and it’s very interesting.

As a group there are many different opinions, as a group you can learn so much about each individual. When you work together your paper comes out stronger than it would when working by yourself. When there is more than one person working on a paper, there are many different outlooks on things. After finishing the two papers I have come to realize, Group papers aren’t so bad after all, it was actually very interesting. We all worked together and came out with a very strong intelligent paper.

Jasmine Farlow is absolutely correct. Writing our first two research papers were challenging from an individual writer’s perspective. It is difficult working alone whenever all of the work is rested on your shoulders alone. Working in pairs like Rachel previously said, “two heads is better than one”, gives the quality of two masterminds composing a piece of literature. Working in large groups to compose paper 4 allowed more concentration on specific assignments. For example, I chose to elaborate on the abstract and introduction. Only having to worry about these two topics, allowed for me to gain concrete information based on our title, provided a thorough and detailed description. Working together allowed for a more strong, and intelligent composition.

  2. I personally really enjoyed our fourth project as a group project! I thought that group one did an excellent job and everyone participated and put effort into the paper. I felt that we worked well together, and I’m hoping our last project will go just as smoothly.

  3. I think that having an equal share in the paper is really important. If everyone has their own section then the people in the group can do theirs and then collaborate and put it all together. I wish we did the group papers earlier in the year though because with finals and everything else it's becoming more difficult to meet when someone inst busy. But if done right meeting once out of class helps pull the ideas and bring it together.

  4. I know that from working on the past few papers that I prefer working in a group. I have particularly appreciated working in a group because of how hectic finals week can by. Distributing parts of the paper to everyone in the group allowed the research process to move smoothly, and less hectic than it would be doing it alone.

  5. Before this class, I always thought that writing papers in groups was far more tedious than writing them alone. This was because I always ended up doing the bulk of the work anyway, so writing a "group" paper for me was always the same as writing an individual paper, except I had to try and work around other peoples' schedules to try and meet with them to discuss the paper's progress. This year, however, I was fortunate enough to join a decent research group that was eager to do their share of the work. This of course is an important aspect of doing a group project. Without having a willing group, group papers are a true chore. A cooperative group makes all the difference.

  6. Sometimes I think group papers turn out better in the end rather than one you write by yourself. You get the opinions of other people on the topic and you get to see part of the paper from another point of view other than your own.

  7. I do agree with that it can be challenging to write with other people. It also has it benefits because its easier to bring more ideas to the table with more minds thinking on the same topic. Its hard to have to work on group papers but I enjoyed working on it because it gave me good practice to see how working on a legitimate group research paper would be.

  8. I agree with Jasmine that group papers usually turn out stronger than papers written by an individual. I also agree that writing in a group is less stressful. Being able to split up the paper into different parts puts less work on each individual and you get different views by doing this also.

  9. I agree with Jasmine's statement about a group made the paper stronger because more people looking at your work, the more corrections / help you can get on it.

Also being an art major I had a lot of work to do for finals. So, it was better working in a group because I knew that I didn't have to write a 5 page paper and all the other final stuff I had to do. I just had to write a section, meet with my group once, put it all together with the group, and we were done. It was so nice and definitely took a lot of weight off of my sholders
